An independent benchmark from outside your classroom.
ICAS is an academic competition taken in 41 countries since 1981. It shows you where your students stand, measured by reasoning rather than recall.
For your school
See where your cohort stands against a national benchmark, broken down by skill and topic rather than a single score.
For your students
Questions that ask them to apply, analyse and evaluate — not recall. Higher-order thinking, against an international standard, in their own classroom.
Recognition
Medals for the top score in each subject and year level, then High Distinction, Distinction, Credit and Merit, ranked within Malaysia. Principals can add a Principal's Award for progress.
What that means for a cohort
ICAS asks children to work something out rather than remember it — the higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) Malaysian classrooms are already working towards. What matters to a school is how they are used.
Five subjects, not one
English, Mathematics, Science, Digital Technologies and Writing — the same standard of thinking applied across all of them.
The whole class, not the top few
Everyone takes the same paper and the questions get harder as it goes on, so every child in a mixed-ability class has somewhere to work.
And it reports back
A breakdown by topic and skill, for each student and across the cohort — not a score and a certificate.
Built for the whole class, not only its strongest students — and it tells you what it found.
What comes back
Results you can teach from, not a list of scores.
- Which topics your cohort handled well, and which they need to work on
- Patterns across classes and year groups
- Writing ability compared across year levels
- A report for every student to take home
Schools across Malaysia
What's involved
- Register once and you're set for every cycle after that. You get a School Code and password, and you reuse them each year. There's no charge to register.
- It runs at your school, online, supervised by your own teachers. Never at home.
- Students can use their own devices if the school doesn't have enough.
- Two ways to run it. Manage registration yourself, or give parents your School Code and let them pay directly — we handle the student data on that route.
Getting started
- Register your school — one form, once.
- Choose how students register.
- Check your devices and internet before test day.
How much time it takes depends on how you run it. Ask us and we'll walk you through it.
Fees and dates
Private and international schools
Register before 28 February to get the Early Bird rate. From 1 March, normal pricing applies until registration closes.
Prices are per subject, per student.
Government school pricing (SK, SJK, SMK, SMJK, SMS)
If your child attends a government school, a different fee structure applies — and it doesn't change with timing, so there's no Early Bird cut-off to watch for.
RM89 (Writing)Any one subject, per student
Pricing is the same whenever you register, so there is no Early Bird deadline to watch.
2027 Dates
